I don¡¯t know the actual Nike Air Max 1 Femme Pas Cher #¡¯s on the differential in thickness between the heel and toe, but the Free 3.0 has a much lower heel than most traditional running shoes. While there¡¯s still enough cushioning there to allow me to continue heel striking, it was enough of a reduction that I felt it in my leg muscles when I first started running in them. I wasn¡¯t sore in the calves like I was after my first runs in the Vibrams (which have no built-up heel), but the Free 3.0¡¯s did seem to work my muscles in a different way than previous shoes I¡¯d used, and perhaps helped me to have a smoother transition into the Vibrams than others who make the jump straight in.
The real standout here in terms of biomechanical differences was barefoot running. Here are some of the key differences that were found for barefoot relative to the shoes:1. shorter stride length than all shod conditions 2. higher cadence than all shod conditions (avg. 187.7 steps/min) 3. less dorsiflexion of the ankle at initial contact (i.e., flatter foot placement at contact) 4. greater ankle plantarflexion at toe-off 5. reduced knee extension and abduction moments 6. less knee flexion during midstance (straighter leg) 7. smaller joint moments and less work done at the knee (24% less negative work when barefoot compared to the standard shoe) 8. greater joint moments and more work done at th Nike Air Max 1 Homme Pas Cher e ankle
Given the above features, I view the Nike Free 3.0 as a great choice as a transitional shoe if you¡¯re thinking about working your way down to running barefoot or in an extremely minimalist shoe like the Vibram Fivefingers. Some disagree with this approach, saying that going barefoot from the start is the best approach so that immediate sensory feedback from your feet can prevent you from doing too much, too soon, but the transitional approach worked well for me, and I have managed to avoid any serious injuries so far while running in Vibrams over the past 8-10 months (I should point out that although I¡¯ve tried barefoot running, I¡¯m not a barefoot runner). The important thing to remember with any new shoe, and with minimalist shoes in particular, is to not overdo it ¨C give your feet and legs time to adjust to these shoes, and resist the urge to do too much, too soon.
Another important point that the authors emphasize is that their subjects were very highly trained runners and that as a result they might ¡°already have highly consistent running mechanics and different types of shoes have little influence on their running gait.¡± They indicate that ¡°It is possible that lesser trained runners with less consistent mechanics may be more susceptible to changes in running gait when utilising a minimalist shoe.¡± As always, one must consider the subjects and conditions studied when applying the results of a scientific study, and I¡¯d once again love to take a look at individual variation.
I¡¯ll finish by saying that part of my disappointment regarding the release of the Nike Free Run+ stemmed from my belief that it¡¯s arrival was going to coincide with the disappearance of the Free 3.0. This would have been unfortunate since the Free 3.0 is one of my favorite shoes, and one that has played a big role in my minimalist transition. Turns out that the Free 3.0 is still available, at least for now, so if you want to give it a try it can be found at a few places on-line (check the Nike Store for starters) ¨C not sure how long it¡¯s going to last.
The Free 3.0 v5 is a pretty soft shoe. One of my favorite things about th Nike Air Max 2015 France Pas Cher e original Free 3.0 was that it made me feel like a ninja ¨C the soft sole and lack of rubber silenced my footfalls. This shoe has this same property ¨C if I¡¯m coming up behind someone walking their dog on the sidewalk I often have to make some noise to let them know I¡¯m about to pass. I¡¯ve startled enough people in my time to realize that most don¡¯t like to have someone running fast overtake them without some warning that they¡¯re there (it¡¯s a challenge when they¡¯re wearing headphone s and I can¡¯t jump ints and I can¡¯t jump into the road due to traffic¡).
